Charleston - miasto w Stanach Zjednoczonych, w stanie Karolina Południowa, nad Atlantykiem.

Miasto założone jako Charles Town w 1670 roku.

W czasie amerykańskiej wojny rewolucyjnej odparło pierwszy atak brytyjski w 1776 roku. W walkach w obronie Charleston w 1779 roku odznaczył się Kazimierz Pułaski. Ostatecznie jednak miasto zostało zdobyte po oblężeniu przez Brytyjczyków w 1780 roku i pozostało w ich rękach do końca wojny.

12 kwietnia 1861 roku atak konfederatów na federalny Fort Sumter, strzegący portu w Charleston, rozpoczął działania zbrojne w wojnie secesyjnej.

31 sierpnia 1886 roku miasto zostało zniszczone w trzęsieniu ziemi.

W roku 1989 miasto nawiedził Huragan Hugo, który w porywach osiągnął 4 stopień zniszczenia.

 Charleston - a city in the United States, South Carolina, on the Atlantic Ocean.
The town was founded as Charles Town in 1670.
During the American Revolutionary War, British repulsed the first attack in 1776. The fighting in the defense of Charleston in 1779 was marked by the Kazimierz Pulaski. Ultimately, however, the city was captured after the siege by the British in 1780 and remained in their hands until the end of the war.
12 April 1861 Confederate attack on Fort Sumter federal, guarding the port of Charleston, began military operations in the Civil War.
August 31, 1886, the city was destroyed in the earthquake.
In 1989, the city was hit by Hurricane Hugo, which in gusts reached level 4 damage.
